The realm of dreams

Soft as a f eather And bright as the sunshine She had dreams in her heart, And sadness in her eyes. She was wild and fierce, She loved to break rules But such was her fate, That she had only her shackles to call her own!   A ll tied  & tangled  in chains That dark  corner  was her home now ! Th ey say that you can tie the  hands  , But not the mind . And so, in that dark room , She let her mind wander free ! She dreamt of going out there , Running in the fields !   One day, she heard a voice, Right outside the window In the darkness & silence, She could hear  him  very clearly , He was singing , In his beautiful voice ! She sat there listening , Till he sang his heart out ! Maybe it was God’s way , Of telling her to never lose hope! Or maybe it was just a moment , But  how  could she let it go? In his voice, she found solace He sang about love , About life and its meaning , And  she found herself dreaming ! She felt beautiful from within, It was new feeling! It gave her the str

Behind the Facade

Tara was going to st ep out from her tiny village for the first time in her life. She was nervous but very excited. Three months ago, when her dear aunt had introduced h er to the boy who would soon become her husband, she was skeptical about accepting the offer. She had a feeling that she might not be able to adjust to the fast-paced life, all that glamour of a big city and the expectations of her soon-to-be husband who was born & brought-up in Mumbai. However, when they first met, all her apprehensions were put to rest when  Sanket   informed her how he always wanted to live a peaceful life, he loved to eat home-cooked meal and he would prefer to come back to the village once he retires from his job. He also explained how he had spent his childhood there and had fond memories of his life at the village. Tara was able to relate to him and felt comfortable around him. Even though Tara was shy and her parents had informed her strictly not to speak about her career aspirations at thi

When the days are dark & the nights are long

Someday, it will all come back to normal. But that ‘some’ day doesn’t seem to be very near. This pandemic is showing us new ways of changing our lifestyle, our work - style, rethink all the decisions we made for ourselves, relive all the  long-forgotten memories and what not!  However, one of the most important things it has taught us, in a rather harsh manner, is to be adaptable to change.  Living in a fast-paced world, most of us were living a life where we had no time to pause & think.    Hurt a friend ? “Time will heal everything” Missed attending grandparents’ funeral ? “Didn’t they always teach us that work was more important?”   No time for kids? “ They’ll learn to live this way- they are sma rt & independent kids after all” Been 15 days since you  last spoke with your parents?  “They understand that life is hectic these days”   We were so busy is running this race that there was a whole bunch of  millennials who felt there was no need of having a permanent house to live

Loud whispers of the silent souls

The grasses were greener today, The leaves seemed to happier than ever Swaying with the cadence of the wind Dancing to the tune of the breeze The wobbly stems seemed to have found new strength Rejuvenated, re-energized Today they were holding the leaves tighter than ever, not letting them fall!  “I’ll be your strength forever”, said the stem, finally muttering the words that the leaves had waited desperately to hear! What could’ve made them happier..! They smiled and danced with all their might The cool breeze blew faster, whispering to the leaves, “Overwhelmed I am, for having met your vibrant self, Fresh, full of life, you look beautiful today!” “Thank the rains, O’ dear, For it did what the sun, the moon, the earth and the wind couldn’t do; It brought life back in us ”, replied the leaves.

Think of that moment and "feel" the presence of love!

When the relationship between two people gets stabilized, when you’re sure about each other and once that “struggle” part is over, there comes a time when   you get so engrossed in your daily chores that you actually forget to admire the beauty of the other person… the thing that differentiates that someone from others and the quality that made you fall in love with them! Honesty, beauty, innocence, simplicity, whatever it was that made your heart skip a beat! And then one fine day, while maybe watching a movie, or reading a book, some scene would remind you of a time in your life when you probably were “together” only in your dreams & not in reality.  When you had the time and will to see the beauty of the person. When you spent hours simply thinking about that person…and when probably nothing was so stable as today. When you were so much in love and when you used to ask God never to end the moment that you spent with them. The moment would make you smile, almost t

"The White Tiger" A note to the author

I read a lot of novels, work of fiction mainly, but it’s not that I write a review of each and every book that I read. In fact, this is the first time I’ve got myself to write a book review. I had to do this, I thought right after I completed reading ‘The White Tiger’ by  Aravind   Adiga  yesterday at about 7:30PM.  It is not that the writer or the name of the book was new to me. I guess every Indian, who is into reading or writing, even a little bit of it; has heard about this book at least once in their life. Even those who are not must have heard the name ‘the white tiger’ somewhere or the other.  I am not very fond of reading books that have been awarded the ‘MAN BOOKER PRIZE’. I don’t know the reason why, but I never find such books interesting. So why did I end up reading this book? Because over the last 5 years, I’d heard a lot of praises of the book from people who I trust, in their choice I mean. So there I was, on the 29 th  of March, searching for some good book to
